Our story

It started with a smile!

At Smile Place Dental & Aesthetics, we believe that every smile tells a story - and we're here to ensure yours is a healthy and confident one. Established by sisters Dr. Arathy Rao and Dr. Chitra Rao, our practice has grown from a shared vision of delivering compassionate, high-quality dental care to communities across Melbourne's eastern suburbs. With clinics in Tecoma, Forest Hill, and Glen Iris, we are dedicated to making exceptional dental services accessible and convenient for all.

Our journey began with a simple yet profound mission: to create a welcoming environment where patients of all ages feel valued, heard, and cared for. Drawing from over a decade of experience, Drs. Arathy and Chitra Rao have cultivated a team of skilled professionals who share their passion for dentistry and patient well-being. From preventive check-ups to advanced cosmetic procedures, our comprehensive services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.

Our doors are open six days a week, with provisions for emergency appointments, reflecting our dedication to being there when you need us most.

Why is it important to maintain dental health?

We recommend you take steps to maintain your teeth and gums as this can improve your general health and prevent pain and dental disease. Regular visits to your dentist are just as important as visiting your doctor, as your dental health can directly affect your general health. In fact poor oral health has been linked to other diseases in the body such as diabetes, dementia and cardiovascular disease!

This is why maintaining optimal dental health, especially into older age, is vital to ensuring a long and happy life. At Smile Place, we recognise this as an important issue and our friendly dentists spend time to educate you on the importance of dental health. Starting at a young age is vital to forming lasting habits and our dentists are excellent with educating young children.

How often should I visit a dentist?

We recommend visiting a dentist at least twice yearly or as you require attention. If you have any concerns in between appointments we advise visiting us as soon as possible. A small concern could become much larger if untreated, which is why we encourage our patients to let us know if they are worried about their teeth, mouth, gums or jaw.

How do I maintain a healthy smile?

Visiting a dentist every 6 months will ensure that you are protecting your teeth against decay and other harmful dental conditions. A thorough examination and clean will enable us to detect any dental problems early and limit the extent of the problem. As well as this you may also:

- Brush your teeth twice per day
- Floss before bed
- Use a mouth wash (optional or as recommended)

These key factors are required to prevent decay, gum disease and identify signs of oral cancer early.
